Day 1 ~ And AWAY We go!

Being thin is not just a matter of exercising and dieting, it is a lifestyle.  It is not enough to go on a diet, get lipo-suction (which I have not), stomach stapling (this either), etc.. and then when you get to your goal weight you think you can live happily ever after.  NOT!  It is a lifestyle, a way of living.
I have been on so many diets throughout my life.  That now at 48 I must get serious about my health... after all, it's not like I'm a spring chicken anymore!

My Cooking & Eating Habits:  My problem is that I love good food, gourmet food, I love to cook, I use butter not margarine, I do not do diet drinks (it's either all or nothing- besides I am not a big soda drinker), sugar- never artificial, we make things from scratch... lemonade included, I only used natural fresh foods, nothing processed or canned... fresh, Fresh, FRESH! foods only!!, I love to eat, and Calley loves to cook...

Now we just have to tweek the way we cook and eat.  All I have to do is just substitute some items for other healthier ones.  For example when baking muffins, cakes, did you know that you can substitute apple sauce for oil?

Stats:
  • Age:  48
  • Height:  5'6"  [I shrank an inch since high school :(   ]
  • Starting Weight:  175 3/4 lbs. (yes I am including the 3/4 because it is not near the 176 mark lol)
Yesterday's Weight :       N/A
Day 1 Weight:               175.7 lbs.
Weight Lost:                     N/A
Weight Lost To Date:     N/A
Weight Left to Loose:    15 lbs.
wii Fit Age:  54

Goal:  To loose 15 pounds in 21 days
If the contestants on Extreme Makeover Weight Loss Edition
can be expected to loose anywhere from 90 to 150 pounds in
             a 90-day period... I can do this!

Today's Exercise:  One hour and 3 minutes of exercise, including 50 minutes of cardiovascular exercise and 12 minutes of strength training.  3 sets of 10 lunges, 3 sets of 15 squats.  I discovered today that I am much better at doing the hula hoop clockwise, than counter-clockwise!  Hysterical!

Water Intake:  7 - 16oz bottles of water

Breakfast:  bowl of corn flakes

Lunch:  Salad with romaine lettuce, cucumbers, tomatoes, water chestnuts, almonds and avocados..  (avocados has healthy fat in it, which our body needs.)

Dinner:  [Figures, the day I happen to start my challenge, there's a (mini) family reunion of three of the first Lebanese families that settled El Paso (in the early 1900's)!!
Dinner's menu was a difficult one!!  The reunion was at a Mexican Steak Restaurant, buffet style (pre-ordered too)... there was Spanish rice, beans, tacos, mole beef, roasted chicken (which I did not see until it was too late), squash with a cheesy sauce, sirloin steak, no salad or other vegetables :( ... you get the picture.  I had them serve me rice, sirloin, squash, taco...  I needed to have a little carbs because I had had any all day... I ate very, Very, VERY, V E R Y  slow... about 1/3 cup of the rice, picked out the 3oz squash from the cheese sauce, maybe 2oz of sirloin steak and ate a third of the taco. With this I had 2 tall glasses of water with a lemon wedge.  No desert.  Did you know that it takes anywhere from ten to twenty minutes for your stomach to send your brain the message of being full?

Today's Summary:  I would have to say that for my first day I did pretty good.  Honestly, I wasn't 100% prepared to start so quick, but being that I have wanted to loose weight for a time now, I had to commit fast!

Let me ask you a question... Do you feel the water with your toes before you jump into a pool?  OR  Do you just jump in?  I JUMP IN!!

Tomorrow's Goal:  TO eat healthier, more vegies and fruits, and to do at least an hour an a half of exercise.  Ideally I would like to be working out 3 hours a day...  I need to be there by Tuesday.

Health Tip of the Day...
Raw vegetables are not always the healthier choice. Cooking actually makes some vegetables more digestible by breaking down some of the fiber therefore releasing other nutrients. It's best to have a large amount of both in your diet.

I am not a doctor or a dietitian, and am not promoting for you to follow "my 21-day challenge."  I do however advise you to consult your physician before exercise or dieting.  This is for my own personal gain (or loss) and not affiliated with wii in any way.  wii is not paying me for this.
